Tips for going "GREEN" at the office

Be Bright About Light

ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs, and can last up to 10 times longer. In addition, they produce about 75 percent less heat, so they can cut cooling costs.

Maximize Computer Efficiency

Set your computer to automatically "power down" or sleep after a period of inactivity. If you're not going to use your computer for more than 20 minutes, turn off the monitor. Going to be away for more than 2 hours? Shut down the computer entirely.

Go Paperless When Possible

Store information electronically, instead of in filing cabinets. Instead of printing documents, send them through e-mail or on disc. Reduce the number of faxes you send by e-mailing PDFs.

Print Smarter

When you have to print, use both sides of the paper and use paper that contains post-consumer recycled content. Before you print, use the "print preview" feature to eliminate pages with single lines of text. When your printing cartridges run out, recycle them at your local office supply store.

Ramp Up Your Recycling

Add bins for recycling aluminum and plastic. Don't throw away old electronics, recycle them! While you're at it, recycle your CFL light bulbs, too!
